How it started & how it's going.
Laurilyn Flower Farm is located in Jonesville, Indiana, 10 miles south of Columbus and 7 miles north of Seymour.
Our flower farm came into existence because of a deeply ingrained love of flowers, combined with hard working family members who had a vision of what we could accomplish. Having fresh flowers in our homes was always something that brought us joy.
In the beginning...
-
The Seed
In the spring of 2017, Lisa, Jerilyn and Lauren’s mom, decided to see what type of cut flowers she was able to grow herself. She wasn’t satisfied with the quality and vase life of flowers she was finding in local stores, and was curious to see if she could grow better quality blooms in her backyard.
-
The Soil
Lisa has always had a love for gardening and all things plant related. Because of previous experience growing vegetables, she already owned all of the tools and equipment needed to successfully start seeds. That spring we started our first crop of cut flowers for us to enjoy & share.
-
The Fertilizer
The first variety we found success with was zinnias, but instead of a few hundred blooms, we quickly realized that we were going to end up with thousands! Because of this surplus of flowers, we were called to reflect and consider what we were really capable of growing.
Where do we go from here?
We had a family discussion late 2017 about the future of growing flowers. Did we want to keep growing small amounts just for us or did we want to grow more and turn this hobby into a business.
Lauren discovered a knack for floral design during the 2017 growing season and was ready to do wedding floral design full time. Jerilyn, Richard, and Lisa committed to growing flowers that Lauren could use in design and that they could sell at farmers markets. It was decided. We were officially starting a flower business!
Next, we needed a name. After several days of throwing ideas around, Lisa suggested smushing together her two daughter's names: Lauren & Jerilyn. And just like that, Laurilyn Farms was born.
So much to learn.
We began to read, research, and learn about the cut flower industry after this initial growing season. Our second year, 2018, signaled a shift from backyard hobby growing to a true flower farm operation.
Seasons of growth...

2018
Richard had been involved with the growing process from the start, but this is when his background in grain farming really became crucial to our success. With his expertise and years of experience gained from running a family farm, he brought knowledge of crop planning and operating equipment that helped us get efficient processes into place.

2019-2020
For the next two years, Richard and Jerilyn began growing a variety of flowers at the farm in Jonesville, in caterpillar tunnels as well as the field. These were formative years for us as we began to identify types of flowers that we could grow exceptionally well. We began to focus on focal flowers for wholesale market sales in addition to retail customers.

2020
By the beginning of 2020, we were ready to take the next leap of faith by building our first greenhouse. This allowed us to extend our growing season, as well as grow more high-quality specialty crops such as ranunculus, eucalyptus, and lisianthus. Since 2020 we’ve added two additional greenhouses, as well as expanded our field production.
Lauren helped with flower farming, farmers markets, social media, and workshops those first few years. In 2020, her wedding business had grown into a full time gig.
Since then, her business has continued to thrive. While she is not involved with the day to day flower farming operations, she still gives input on what flowers we should grow and helps with marketing when we need it.

Growing together.
While a lot of aspects of our business have changed since 2017, the people are still the same. Lisa continues to play an integral part in our flower operation as she enjoys tackling the question of “what can we grow?” and experimenting with new varieties. On the farm, Richard and Jerilyn focus on growing blooms in large quantities that are of exceptional quality. And at the end of the growing process, Lauren’s eye for design showcases the beauty of our local flowers. Our flower farm is a true labor of love!
